Man oh man I miss traveling.
It makes my heart so happy to see God's creation and with the climate of today's world, I don't see travel in my future too much.
So I figured this would be a good time to reminisce on some of my favorite trips, and throw a few tips in there!
To start with, let's talk about Scotland.
Tip #1: Flights may be cheaper in the winter, but it's not worth the snowstorm.
We made the mistake of flying into Scotland during the winter and a record-breaking snowstorm...... Although we had to cancel most of our travel plans and were stranded in Scotland for quite a bit of the trip, we did get to walk around ALOT more of the city than usual. Note to self, the coffee is amazing in Scotland, don't travel during the winter.
Tip #2: Pack shoes for all kinds of weather.
My cousins were smart and remembered to pack snow-proof shoes. I, however, packed a pair of booties that did not last and I spent most of the trip sliding down the stairs on my bum.
Tip #3: Plan more than what you want to do and then pick what you want to do that day
Plans change people. Snowstorms come, flights get delayed, and jet lag sets in. SO, have a list of things you want to do and then on that day decide what fits the weather, your wants, and your traveling buddies moods.
Tip #4 Hit the of the beaten path spots:
In Scotland, these spots were: The Elephant House (The birthplace of Harry Potter), Edinburgh Castle, and Deacon's House Cafe. To be fair, we basically lived in near these spots for a week because trains were shut down. But, I would recommend these if we ever go back.
Tip #5 Where to stay
We spent the first few nights at The Grassmarket Hotel. Which, we loved! Of course, we had to change halfway through due to our reservation being over and the storm tramping us in Scotland but hey, you win some you lose some.
